Being from North California, I totally feel the same way... I got new windows for my home last year and have really started to see the change it makes. Now just to rebuild those dang front doors...

Yes, Singapore is great - and the street food is fabulous there - the night after the roast dinner we went to the food market and sat on plastic chairs at a rickety table and drank beer from plastic glasses and ate, from paper plates, some the best and freshest food I have ever eaten.

Glad to hear the show went ok - and it is bound to get better and hopefully as your fame spreads through Penang they will be breaking down the doors to hear you. It will be a fantastic experience for you.

Simon - you may well be right. tonight I entered a whole new room of cheese. but not of the bad sort. more of that tomorrow.

John - thanks for reading, glad you're enjoying it :-). and extreeeemely interesting to hear about your Singapore experience. I think T definitely wants to do more of this, and get more UK artists (hark at me, "artist") over to work with Malaysian musicians. and who knows, Singapore may be next on his hitlist...

HoorayHenry - thanks also. and I shall take "jolly good show" in its most literal sense.

Really enjoying your blog. I've never been to Penang. But, embarassing to admit, I spent quite a bit of time in the "classy" hotel bars and restaurants in Singapore, not far away. In almost all of them I was struck by the weirdness of the live music. From what I could hear, the musicians always seemed technically proficient, but SO mind-bogglingly cheesy in how they chose to present the material. I particularly remember thinking, "christ, someone find them a good, non-cheesy singer to sort this out." I also remember writing home about this strange facet of the local nightlife. So it's fascinating to read your description of this from the point of view of that singer. If you can stand the humidity you should get your agent to get you work down in Singers next. From what I saw and heard, they need you there too!

Go with the cheese. Don't fight it, you're chained to cheese. You will end up more Vic Reeves than Dianne Reeves. Glad to hear it went well. x
