I felt the need, the need for speed

I did something I’ve never done before in my life yesterday.

I drove a jetski.

Actually, does one “drive” a jetski? I know you ride them; but I didn’t just ride (on?) a jetski. Ohhh no. Because that would imply I was merely the passenger. Whereas I was, in fact, the driver.

And it was BRILLIANT*.

Honestly, I was happy as Larry, driving/riding that jetksi at full pelt off the coast of Batu Ferringhi, with A1 as my wingman. We had a blast - and I think I did pretty well considering that I don’t even know how to drive a car (although I do know how to ride in one).

The whole afternoon was lovely, and fascinating, as always. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the hotel to BF; and it was even interesting before we’d left the hotel area, when I saw one of these negotiating some speed-bumps. And yet the day got even better.

As we drove to Batu Ferringhi, A1 pointed out parts of the island that had been damaged by the tsunami in 2004 - including new flats that had been built for those who had lost their homes. Not surprisingly, these new flats were on stilts.

We then arrived at BF itself - and basically spent the afternoon eating lunch at a bistro on the beach, talking, sunbathing (V) and jetskiing (me and A1). A2 joined us for a drink at the end.

The pictures are here and here - and include photographic evidence of my Top Gun On Water experience.

And yes, it was a Bounty-like paradise. Perhaps the post should have been called ‘Doing a jazz gig… If you’re drinking Bacardi’:

well, thanks for those photos on a wet thursday morning in sheffield! And it’s interesting that some people still take their knitting to paradise.

    Hi Andrea
I don’t suppose you’ve got a minibar fridge in your room? One with an ice box?

  3. Andrea Says:

Peter - sorry ’bout that. and, well, for some people I guess knitting *is* paradise.

Rachel - yes, I do. and it’s stocked with Bacardi.

i must admit that i horribly sick on Bacardi when i was 18 (yes, Andrea, in sunny Wolverhampton!!) and so every mention of it makes me feel ever so slightly queasy ! or maybe its the fact that i am desperately jealous !!!!!!!!!!

but i have never gone on a jet ski before - so did you fall off ??? (he says in hope !)

  5. Rachel Says:

    OK Andrea
Could you hold your arm in the ice box for a couple of minutes please?
    R

  6. Andrea Says:

    R - lol.

M - of course I didn’t fall off! I’m an expert beginner at everything. now, the second time I go on a jetski…

  7. Charlotte Says:

yeah, it looks quite nice where you are…

  8. Rachel Says:

Yes there are a lot of people expressing jealousy because it’s really rather strenuous on the imagination to reach *empathy* with your heated environment (she says, typing next to radiator). So, just wanted that you’re not be jealous of us here but rather more in tune with the feeling of - 6. xx :-)

  9. Rachel Says:

“you’re not be” ?? Did I grow up in Bristol? Did I? “Gert Lush - right Drive? Did you nick me daps?” sigh

  10. Sarah Says:

A&V, that beach looks amazing! Great pedi toes too Vic :-). Glad you had such a lovely day xxx

  11. Andrea Says:

Charlotte, Rachel - just as it was hard to imagine 34 degrees and humidity before I came out here, it’s now hard to imagine the arctic conditions back home. I really am trying, though… ;-)

Sarah - thanks! wait til you see the monkey pics later…

  12. Peter Thompson Says:

is a jetski a polish jet?

  13. Andrea Says:

Peter - I had a similar thought after writing ‘jetski’. probably because it’s the sort of word you hear said, and say yourself, but never ever write. I’m sure there are other words which fall into that category, but I’m too tired right now to think of what they are…
