our head of department’s in-laws are called mary and joseph, which gives his wife a fair amount of clout in the relationship obviously

Surely you could have turned it into Billy Joel the Stable Boy (or Unstable in his case).
One of my proudest moments as a concerned father was the folowing dialogue with my son

Phil: “You know, that guy. Joseph’s son.”
Me: “Do you mean Jesus?”
Phil: “Yeah, that’s the feller.”
